Movie recommendation - most of the nuts here will get it!

Watched a movie that was well worth the price of the DVD, and would me more than worth the rental fee for it!

Shaolin Soccer

This movie is a combination of the bad Chinese kung-fu movies you used to see on the Saturday afternoon matineee on tv (and by 'bad', I am really meaning 'good') and a Mystery Science Theater screaming wanna be movie where you are the ones talking over the film.

People with names like "Steel-Leg", "Lightning hands", "Light weight", "Iron head", "Iron Shirt", and "Hook Leg" - all middle age Chinese guys with the traits that you would expect, but the ability to do those fanciful martial artsy things like flying, causing a soccer ball to burst into flames, etc.

Great special effects (I mean so crappy that they are great - when you can pick out when they are added in and you laugh)

The story is corny, and there are more than a few scenes where you can tell where it is going to go, good or bad - but always a good laugh at the end.

yeah I saw this movie about a year ago (in fact, we still stock the import version dvd) and I totally love it.. if you like this, try Ping Pong which is similar except based on PP, not as funny but it has its moments..
